Autism-Europe aisbl is an international association whose main objective is to advance the rights of persons with autism and their families and to help them improve their quality of life.

Autism-Europe plays a key role in raising public awareness, and in influencing the European decision-makers on all issues relating to autism, including the promotion of the rights of people with autism and other disabilities involving complex dependency needs.

Code of Good Practice on the Prevention of Violence (1999)

This Code of Good Practice was drafted to share information on how to prevent violence and abuse and specially sexual abuse toward children, young people and women in institutions and to promote good practice among those responsible for managing and administrating any institutions hosting vulnerable groups such as people with severe disabilities, orphans, battered women, young people and women in psychiatric institutions, etc.

This Code has been drafted by an international team of experts composed of Yvette Dijkxhoorn of the University of Leiden (NL), André Foubert, director of a residential care centre (F), Dr. Paula Freitas, child psychiatrist with APPDA and lecturer at the University of Porto (P), Bill Meldrum of the Scottish Society for Children with autism (UK), Dr. Donata Vivanti, President of ANGSA Lombardia (I) and Dr. Christopher Williams of the University of London (UK). Other experts participated in the project: Dr Rita Jordan, University of Birmingham (UK), Dr Theo Peeters, Opleiding Centrum Autisme (B) and Paul Shattock, University of Sunderland (UK).
