This is happening even though the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has existed for 70 years, and the EU has its very own Charter of Fundamental Rights.<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The EU and its Member States are struggling to find effective answers to the problems people face. These include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">security concerns<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">economic worries<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">changing global migratory patterns<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">fake news<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">lack of public debate<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">alienation or &lsquo;othering&rsquo;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Populist movements are exploiting all of this for their own gain. As a result, society is being fragmented. Some groups increasingly feel separated, excluded and marginalised.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">People in the EU risk losing their sense of belonging &#8211; both to the societies they live in and the values which underpin the EU. That said, the 2017 EU Citizenship report shows that Europeans expect more to be done to promote common values.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The Forum will be a catalyst to reignite a passion for fairness, justice and equality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The Forum is a unique space for dialogue on the pressing human rights challenges in the EU. It is an opportunity to engage in new conversations and shape critical human rights agendas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Among those meeting in Vienna will be leading global and European voices from:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">politics<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">human rights<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">international and regional intergovernmental organisations<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">civil society<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">faith communities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">the arts<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">business<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">trade unions<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">and many others<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The Forum is organised by the European Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Can I follow events at the Forum?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Registration for the Forum has closed<\/strong>. You can follow the event live by joining the debate online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">FRA has indicated Twitter usernames in\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/fundamentalrightsforum.eu\/en\/frf\/frf_programme\">programme<\/a>. Where possible, please use these to tag participants in posts and photos from the Forum. It\u2019s great for their visibility and might get a retweet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">We have also created dedicated hashtags. Support is eroding. Violations are common. This calls for radical innovative strategies to push back against these threats and restore hope for a brighter future.
