Why this theme?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Making one\u2019s own decisions\u00a0is a basic human right, but still too often far from the reality of people with intellectual disabilities. How can different forms of\u00a0supported decision-making, as well as\u00a0legal capacity\u00a0and\u00a0electoral laws\u00a0address this situation? Which improvements have already taken place? These are some of the questions we\u2019ll be talking about at the conference.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0right to live independently\u00a0will be another topic, closely linked to decision-making. We will speak about the\u00a0progress Lithuania and other countries\u00a0have made in ensuring this right, and about what it means for\u00a0families\u00a0when a person with an intellectual disability prepares for an independent life.<\/span><\/p>\n

The specific situation of\u00a0people with complex support needs\u00a0will always be taken into account.<\/span><\/p>\n

What will happen at the conference?<\/span><\/h2>\n

At this conference, Inclusion Europe will listen to people with first-hand experience\u00a0on the topic:\u00a0people with intellectual disabilities\u00a0themselves and their\u00a0parents. They will also be hearing form specialists\u00a0working in the field or doing research. The event will be a space for discussion, for exchanging opinions and sharing experiences of how to overcome certain barriers and worries. We hope that through the diversity of speakers, the conference will be a good opportunity for\u00a0opening up new perspectives, raising awareness of the importance of these themes, and for potential cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n
