Autism-Europe participates in European Commission Work Forum on the UNCRPD implementation

Autism-Europe’s Director, Aurelie Baranger was present at the European Commission’s 2014 Work Forum on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) in the EU.

The work forum, organised by the European Commission, took place on October 22–23, in Brussels. It brought together representatives of the EU, Member States, NGOs and international organisations, who discussed key topics regarding the governing mechanisms of the Convention, including focal points, coordination mechanisms and monitoring mechanisms.
 
Autism-Europe representative and Vice President of the European Disability Forum, Donata Vivanti, opened the event with a speech regarding the need to respect the legal capacity of people with disabilities. 
 
The event’s agenda mainly focused on Article 12 of the UNCRPD on equal recognition before the law, Article 13 on access to justice, and Article 33 concerning monitoring the implementation of the Convention.
