GameOn for Autism: Bridging Skills and Wellbeing with Digital Play

GameOn is a three-year project that aims to enhance the social and life skills of young autistic individuals through the innovative and evidence‑based use of digital games, ultimately supporting their wellbeing, autonomy, and social inclusion.

About the Project

GameOn explores how digital games—both commercial and immersive—can be used as a complementary support tool in autism education and care. The project develops a participatory methodology and a “blended” digital game that links in‑game progress with real‑life challenges, encouraging skill transfer from virtual to everyday contexts. Through research, co‑design with autistic individuals, caregivers, and educators, and extensive piloting across Europe, GameOn delivers practical tools, training, and evidence to support inclusive, motivating, and sustainable learning approaches in adult education and autism support services.

Project Goals

The project aims to:

  • Promote digital games as effective tools to support social and life skills development in autistic people
  • Develop the GAMEON methodology grounded in research and co‑creation
Create a blended digital game by modding a commercial game for autism support
  • Improve motivation, engagement, and adherence to learning and daily challenges
  • Train caregivers and educators to implement game‑based support practices
  • Raise awareness and build evidence on the positive impact of digital play on wellbeing
