Mental Health Europe’s report maps long-term care for people with mental disabilities in Europe

Mental Health Europe has released a report titled ‘Mapping Exclusion’, which contains a comparative analysis of trends and policy changes in the area of deinstitutionalisation and community-based care in the mental health field across Europe.

The report gives a general overview of institutional and community-based residential support, focusing on mapping long-term care for people with mental disabilities in Europe, including long-stay hospital care, social care institutions, and community-based residential arrangements.

The unjustified segregation of people with disabilities in large institutions is a violation of human rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). States that have ratified the UNCRPD have made a commitment to take effective measures to facilitate the inclusion of people with disabilities in the community.
