The Senate’s health committee has approved Italy’s first law on autism. The committee gave the green light to the bill, which places treatment for autism among the essential services provided by the Italian healthcare system. It also updates guidelines for prevention, diagnosis and care and promotes research in the field.
The health committee’s president, Democratic Party (PD) Senator Emilia De Biasi, expressed ”great satisfaction” with the approval of the measure. ”Families won’t be alone anymore, we will be able to intervene in a better and more articulated way to support people affected by autism spectrum disorder”, she said in a statement.
