Finland and Iceland ratify UN CRPD

On the 11 May 2016, Finland ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and its Optional Protocol, bringing the total number of States Parties to the Convention to 164 and total ratification of the Optional Protocol to 89.

The Convention and its Optional Protocol thus entered into force in Finland on the 10 June 2016. In the EU, to date, the CRDP has been ratified by almost all the 28 Member States, the only exceptions are Ireland and The Netherlands (which has signed but not yet ratified).

The Icelandic parliament also unanimously approved a parliamentary resolution on September 20 2016 to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
