In March and April 2017, Autism-Europe contacted Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) to make sure that the built environment would be kept in the proposal for the European Accessibility Act (EAA). The action undertaken was done so in support of the European Disability Forum (EDF) campaign.
Together with EDF and its other members, Autism-Europe succeeded in convincing the Members of the TRAN Committee to include the built environment in their opinion report during a vote on 11 April.
The outcome of the vote is still a compromise, but it makes accessibility of the built environment related to the provision of the services and products mentioned in the Act, such as transport, banking, and telephony services, obligatory.
