Be part of our webinar “I can LEARN. I can WORK”

Prior to World Autism Awareness Day, Autism-Europe (AE) will be hosting the webinar “I can LEARN. I can WORK”, as a part of its long-running awareness campaign 2020-2021. AE is calling autistic people and their families to participate by submitting a short video testimonial to be featured during the webinar. Videos can be submitted until Sunday 28th March 2021 (23:59 CET).

There have been many changes and challenges over the last year and, in order to better address the needs of the autism community at this time, we have adapted our campaign to take into account the current situation. Our 2020-2021 awareness-raising campaign is titled “I can LEARN. I can WORK.” and in addition to access to education and employment, the campaign will also address specific COVID-19 related topics including distance education, reasonable accommodation, mental health and pandemic related challenges.

AE would like to hear from autistic people and their families across Europe about their experiences with the above mentioned topics. Those interested are welcome to get involved by submitting a short video testimonial to be featured during the webinar (click here to read the terms and conditions).

The webinar will take place on Tuesday, March 30th at 12:00 (CET) and an on demand version will be available after April 30th. Autistic people and their families, autism organisations, professionals, employers, EU policy-makers and the general population are called to make part of this collaborative event. The agenda will be released soon.

We welcome testimonials in all languages for this event. If possible, please send us an English translation of the testimonial so we may add subtitles to the video.

Filming your video testimonial

Steps

1- Choose the topic that you want to talk about in your testimonial.

  • Distance education
  • Reasonable accommodation
  • Employment experiences
  • Mental health
  • Challenges of the pandemic

Share a story about your experiences with an above topic. It can be a positive experience or maybe a challenge you encountered.

2- Write down a few points that you would like to talk about

This will help you sort out your ideas and nail down exactly what you’d like to say.

3- Record your video

We recommend that the video you submit be no longer than 2.5 minutes. Please see the section below for tips on how to record your video.

4- Submit your video to AE

Once you have finished recording, you can send your video via email to communication@autismeurope.org

Filming location

  • Find a space that has minimal visible distractions and that you’re comfortable sharing publicly
  • Choose a quiet location with little background noise (street sounds, music, other people)
  • Avoid spaces with lots of echo
  • Turn off air conditioners and heaters to avoid fan noise

Set-up

  • Set your laptop, phone, or camera on a tripod or steady surface prior to recording.
  • Position camera at eye level.
  • Shoot horizontally (try to use landscape mode)

Lighting

If possible, try to ensure that your face is well lit by taking advantage of the sources you have. Natural light works wonders!

The deadline to submit your video is Sunday 28th March 2021 (23:59 CET). You must also indicate that you adhere to our terms and conditions, in particular regarding the respect for privacy.
