Autism-Europe (AE) is organising a side-event to the European Parliament for People with Disabilities (EPPD). This AE’s conference will be hosted by Member of European Parliament (MEP) Chiara Maria Gemma (ECR, Italy) on 24 May 2023 from 14:00 to 18:00. As part of AE’s #AutismDay2023 campaign, the conference will present a range of initiatives and projects to foster access to education and employment for autistic people, and offer a wide set of perspectives and experiences on the topic from key stakeholders in Europe.
AE’s conference at the European Parliament in Brussels with simultaneous interpretation in English and Italian is titled “Building inclusive education and employment for autistic people”. This EPPD side-event is running under AE’s current campaign “Building an inclusive society for autistic people”.
Participants will learn about various European projects dedicated to access to education and employment. First, the Digital Inclusive Tool (DiGiTool) project tackling barriers to education for autistic learners will be presented by the project coordinator from Portugal and AE’s member Autismo Sevilla as well as another project partner from Portugal. Autism-Europe’s Irish autistic board member Adam Harris from AsIam will kick start this first panel.
The second panel will present the Workplace Inclusion and employmeNt opportunities for youth WITH aUtism (WIN-WITH-U) project promoting access to employment for autistic people with the participation of the project coordinator from LUISS Business School in Italy and Specialisterne from Denmark. Autism-Europe’s board member Vincent Grimaldi de Puget will introduce this second panel and share insights into current research in the field.
Finally, participants will have the opportunity to learn about various initiatives from Italy to foster access to the labour market for autistic people: SeedIng competences and harvesting work inclusiveNess For adUlt autiStic people (INFUSE) project and Work Aut. This third panel will be chaired by Pietro Cirrincione, board member of Autism-Europe and of the European Disability Forum (EDF).
